VICE SPEAKER`S REPORT ABOUT THE WORK DONE
BAKU/21.06.07/TURAN: During the Spring session of the Milli Mejlis, including extraordinary sessions (February 1, May 1), 16 plenary sessions took place and 166 bills were adopted. 114 sessions of permanent commissions took place, in which 279 bills and decisions were adopted and 2,639 claims and applications from citizens were received, Vice-speaker Bahar Muradova said at a press-conference. She said that the work of deputies can be considered "effective and satisfactory." Chairmen of the permanent parliamentary commissions, as well as the head of the office of the Milli Mejlis Safa Mirzoyev participated and answered the questions of journalists.

They responded to a question about Deputy Huseyn Abdullayev; he was was deprived of his deputy mandate in conformity with a decision passed by the court.

Safa Mirzoyev touched on the Election Code and said that several rounds of talks with the Venice commission took place; the next round of talks will take place at the end of August or the beginning of September.

Bahar Muradova touched on the law on political parties and said that the parliament did not consider the question on its change. She said that she supports the financing of parties by the government, but some principles must be adhered to.

The question on the return of the proportional system to elections was not included in the agenda, Muradova said. "The majority system has been tested successfully and approved itself. So, it is not necessary to return the proportional system" she said.

It is not necessary to adopt the new law "On freedom of religion", said the chairman of permanent commission for human rights Rabiyat Aslanova. The law was adopted in 1992. Although recently Christian missionary organizations have become active in the country, creation of the State Committee for Work with Religious Structures has settled this problem, Aslanova said.

There are no problems with including a representative from the opposition on the PACE Parliamentary Commission. Opposition deputy Iltizam Alekperli has been included in the delegation and the list was sent to the CE prior to PACE session, said chairman of the permanent commission for inter-parliamentary and international relations Samed Seidov. -04C-
